SAPI Venezuela has formally established a new procedure for the granting of geographical indications (GIs), as part of the harmonisation of the Venzuelan IP system with international standards as we mentioned back on 1 February 2021.
As part of the decision, SAPI shall analyse all requests for the protection of GIs based on the procedure for trade mark applications.
In accordance with SAPI's decision, GIs may be applied for by either public or private entities, producer associations, or any other forms of organisation recognised in Venezuela.
