European IP Helpdesk team has just published a new case study “Lanthan SafeSky - How an Innovative Aircraft Detection Lighting System Ensures Safe Skies and Black Nights”. Lanthan Safe Sky (LSS) has been founded as a joint venture between the three companies AIR Avionics, RECASE and Lanthan in 2020, the company’s mission is to create a safe, market-mature, cost-effective and sustainable detection technology.
In Lanthan Safe Sky’s journey, patents have played a crucial role for LSS in safeguarding their technological advantage and keep off copycats. In a collaborative arrangement with a larger partner possessing numerous patents, both parties reached an agreement where the more experienced partner in intellectual property (IP) matters would handle all filing and maintenance activities. Applications were submitted in the name of the larger partner, and LSS obtained a license for one of the relevant patents, covering inventions both with and without LSS's involvement. Nevertheless, patents represent just one aspect of the IP landscape for LSS. The company holds some utility patents and – in addition - the trademark on the name Lanthan Safe Sky.
