New Case Study: How a Small German Company “PYREG” Sets New Milestones for Efficient Waste Disposal

European IP Helpdesk team has just published a new case study "PYREG - From Waste to Value", showcasing how a small German company sets new milestones for efficient waste disposal with its revolutionary and sustainable technology and how a sound intellectual property strategy supported starting their business.

As a spin-off from Bingen University of Applied Sciences, the German PYREG Helmut Gerber Ingenieurbüro GmbH (now known as PYREG GmbH) was established in 2009. Its primary objective was to address the pressing issue of waste disposal by offering an efficient and resource-conserving solution while concurrently generating renewable energy. Through precise control of carbonization parameters, PYREG can produce carbon products in various quality grades. Additionally, the process allows for the gentle recycling of raw materials like phosphorus.

PYREG GmbH is now a global leader, with over 50 systems installed worldwide. Specializing in high-tech plants for the production of CO2-binding biochar, PYREG is also a trailblazer in CO2 extraction. Their systems effectively eliminate over 30,000 metric tons of CO2 each year, providing an equivalent of 75 GWh to meet the annual heating needs of approximately 5,000 households. The technology has received recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and holds EBC type certification (European Biochar Certificate).
