Intellectual Property (IP) is a set of ownership rights protecting a person's or a company's creation. These rights may be highly important for enterprises since they can not only be used to protect products but can also be used as a beneficial business tool.
In a world where digitalization and remote work are striving, more and more people are offering their services as freelancers or consultants. Indeed, in this past decade and according to financesonline.com, there are an estimated 1.1 billion freelancers worldwide as of 2021 which account for 35% of the total global workers.
Selecting the path of an independent worker brings some benefits but also some risks in terms of IP and most of the time issues would arise because of a lack of information and awareness.
As a chamber of commerce, we are aware of how essential IP and the protection of IPR are for businesses, from MNCs to small size companies but also for individuals working independently for companies
As a consultant or freelancer, who owns the IP when you deliver a piece of work to a company? Are there any rules of co-ownership or automatic transfer of your IP rights? What should pay attention to as a freelancer/consultant but also as an employer? And many more questions to be discussed.
EuroCham Cambodia invites you to a Webinar on IP rights in the sectors of Freelancing and Consultancy in collaboration with the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk and the Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Commerce.
The objectives of the webinar are:
- Raising awareness about the legal framework for IP protection among freelancers and consultants.
- Sharing which IP protection steps freelancers and consultants should consider.
- Helping to identify & address IP challenges for the sectors of freelancing and consultancy.
