E-commerce platforms in China play a key role in the economy by driving consumption, creating jobs, and fostering innovation. For EU SMEs, selling the products to China via cross-border e-commerce is a popular choice. Meanwhile, e-commerce platforms have become a critical battleground for IP enforcement. Major Chinese platforms in China have implemented anti-counterfeiting measures, but SMEs often struggle to navigate these systems effectively.
The EU SME Centre, the European Chamber and the IP SME Helpdesk are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Working Group meeting on the topic of E-Commerce, which will take place on 9th April from 15:00 to 16:30 in Beijing and online.
During this event, European SME representatives will get insights from experts on the key trends shaping e-commerce in China, relevant regulatory developments and tips for IPR protection when doing business through e-commerce platforms. The exchange will kickstart with the presentation of an expert from Julian Sun, Senior Associate at Taylor Wessing, who will provide an overview of the key regulatory and compliance in China’s e-commerce scene. China IP SME Helpdesk IP Business Advisor Lisa Lu will then introduce what type of IP rights the SMEs should pay more attention to protect on e-commerce platforms in China, how to monitor the e-commerce platform for infringements, and what enforcement actions the SMEs can take against the infringements on e-commerce platforms.
Before and after the presentation, there will be a short quiz to assess the impact of the event. The quiz is anonymous.

 Mr. Julian Sun, Senior Associate | Julian is a senior associate in Taylor Wessing Shanghai Office. He advises foreign companies on all aspects of Chinese law in relation to their strategy and operation in China. He focuses on IT regulatory and data/privacy protection areas. He also has extensive expertise in general corporate and commercial matters, construction, real estate and environment protection. Julian studied law at Fudan University, where he completed his LLB and LLM degrees in 2009 and 2012 respectively, and was admitted to the Chinese bar in 2009. Before joining Taylor Wessing, Julian has extensive working experience in domestic law firm and leading technology company as a legal manager. |
 Ms. Lisa Lu, the IP Business Advisor at China IP SME Helpdesk | Lisa Lu is the IP Business Advisor at China IP SME Helpdesk in Beijing, where she advises European SMEs on intellectual property rights matters. She holds a double master’s degree in law from the China University of Political Science and Law and University of Hamburg. Before joining the China IP SME Helpdesk at the European Chamber, Lisa worked as a trademark attorney for the Ferrante Intellectual Property and Chang Tsi & Partners. She mainly focused on the fields of trademark prosecution, trademark enforcement, copyright protection and unfair competition. During her time working in both law firms, she dealt with a variety of clients including but not limited to automotive performance, media, entertainment, new energy, apparel, architecture design, data management, e-commerce, household products, HVAC, and fire & security. Her clients included a range of globally leading companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Lisa is fluent in Chinese and English. |
