Intellectual property (IP) improves the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and provide a potential source of revenue. SMEs have specific needs, such as understanding the importance of IP for their businesses, tailored advice in assessing their intangibles, financial support to protect and enforce their IP and better access to finance provided by investors and banks to help them scale up.

Description
The session will give practical information on the initiatives of the different public and private entities and more specific advice to SMEs on how to manage their intangible assets and offer orientation on the various tools. It will also provide an opportunity for SMEs to voice their needs and, thus, shape the EU’s future SME policy.
During the debate, all IP Helpdesks (Europe, South-East Asia, China, Latin America, India and Africa) as well as the innovation support initiatives IPA4SME and Horizon IP Scan will be represented by IP expert Jörg Scherer from the European IP Helpdesk.
