1. Programme Synopsis:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated content has sparked considerable debate amongst the intellectual property (IP) community overall.
One of the key questions raised is whether AI-generated content should be eligible for IP protection, given the traditional norms granting ownership to legal entities and / or natural person(s). Besides the ownership and eligibility issues, it seems that both the national legislators and the judges are now invited to adapt IP laws and rules to comply with the revolution of AI. Malaysia, like many other countries of the world is currently observing what other countries or regions are doing in terms of AI legislation (the EU, the UK, the US). This is not an easy task as the law should not stop the dynamic, innovative and creative wave which was triggered by AI.
In this seminar we will generally cover the following topics:
- Definition of AI Generated Content
- Definition / Legal Interpretation of Ownership and Inventorship under Patents Act 1983
- Recent UK Decision of Stephen Thaler’s DABUS patent
- IP Rights and Potential Infringements in Relation to AI when doing business in Malaysia
