The frenetic changes of the market and the environment constantly urge plant breeding to provide growers and the rest of society with suitable solutions to an increasing number of issues, especially within the Agri-food Sector. For that purpose, science is offering its support to the breeding sector through new genomic techniques (NGTs), one of which, called CRISPR Cas/9, was even awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2020. The application of such a new toolbox can result into the production of plants featuring innovative and useful traits in a significantly short time. Nevertheless, the process for their development represents a considerable investment in terms of both time and economic resource. This is why the effort of innovators shall be encouraged by means of an adequate IP protection.
The aim of this Webinar is to understand what new breeding techniques are and to give some examples of their possible applications as well as the benefits that they can bring to agriculture, human health and the environment. The speakers will also tackle the main practical and legal issues related to their IP protection.
