A variety denomination must be deemed suitable in order to be accepted, where this is so if no impediments to its registration arise. At the CPVO, it is the denomination examiners that are competent for the examination of variety denominations.

This webinar will be opened with an overview of the nature and function fulfilled by the variety denomination, followed by a presentation on the course of the application procedure for proposed variety denominations (from submission to the CPVO until registration).
The legal basis for the examination of proposed variety denominations will be presented, and the different impediments to registration explored.
The examination practice of denomination examiners will be showcased with illustrative examples, along with some explanations about the tasks these perform in the framework of the so-called “cooperation service” with national denomination examiners across the EU.
Further, the speaker will provide some insights on the possibility to file objections against proposed variety denominations.
