WIPO Global IP Perception Survey 2023: India Demonstrates Lower Awareness Index Score

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has published a groundbreaking survey that explores awareness and attitudes towards intellectual property (IP) rights. It stands out as the most comprehensive survey of its kind, drawing insights from 25,000 interviews conducted across 50 countries. It serves as a unique resource for policymakers, researchers, educators and others involved in promoting IP rights and raising IP awareness globally.

The majority of consumers from Asia-Pacific states such as India, China, Japan etc.  agree that IP rights can bring benefits to their economies as well as posing some challenges. However, when compared, the results show that IP is perceived as having the potential to bring more benefits than challenges to the economy.

The survey also finds that within Asia-Pacific states awareness index scores vary significantly, with India and Bangladesh on the lower end of the scale, while Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea demonstrate higher awareness index scores.
