Worldwide IPR-filing activity increased in 2020, defying the current global economic challenges and showcasing vibrant entrepreneurship and the rise of new goods and services in response to the pandemic.
Trademark filings boomed across the globe, with an average growth of 13.7%, yet other IPR filings did not grow in such a spectacular manner.
Patent filings grew 1.6% on average, with India the worldwide leader peaking at a 5.9% growth rate compared to 2019. Such growth sees India as the second country with the highest patent filing growth in the world, only surpassed by China (6.9%).
These results show how the Indian government´s efforts are helping to push the country towards a strong and vibrant innovation ecosystem.
