Updated Fact Sheet Sheds Light on Domain Names Registration and Cybersquatting

The Internet has created plenty of opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It has revolutionised the dynamics of international commerce and is an excellent means to boost brand visibility. While the worldwide web serves as a gateway for SMEs, it also provides an ideal platform for infringers to sell counterfeit products and commit fraud. One of the most significant challenges related to internet fraud is cybersquatting.

This new, updated version of a fact sheet, first published in 2017, discusses domain name ownership and registration and spotlights the links between domain name and trademark. Plus, it explains the problem of cybersquatting and the available dispute resolution mechanisms that SMEs may use to protect their businesses online.
