The Registry of Intellectual Property of Guatemala joins DesignClass

DesignClass stands out as a valuable search and translation tool for the product indicators required to apply for design protection. It provides a collection of user-friendly capabilities to assist users in identifying the Harmonised Database of Product Indications (HDBPI) that best matches the items to which a design is applied.

The HDBPI was collaboratively produced by the EU Intellectual Property Offices (EU IP Offices) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to better reflect all the different products for which a design may be registered.

On 29 January 2024, the Registry of Intellectual Property of Guatemala (RPI-GT) announced its decision to join DesignClass. This decision means that Guatemala will adopt the HDBPI terms listed in DesignClass.

Applicants can search and translate product indications into 30 languages using DesignClass. Following the decision of RPI-GT, the total number of participating IP offices rises to 44. Currently, 18 non-EU IP offices use and accept the terms of this harmonised database.

Argentina joined in June 2023 and there were 42 IP offices in total and 16 non EU. In October 2023 Angola joined, bringing the total to 43 and 17. Now Guatemala, 44 and 18
