Number of female inventors filing patents in Chile grew by 27% in 2022

In 2022, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) received a total of 3,184 national and international patent applications. This amount indicates a total increase of 3.3% from the previous year. (3,082).

According to the analysis, the breakdown of the national patent filings demonstrates that women played a substantial role in this increased number of applications. The organisation reported that in total 420 national patent applications were received involving 888 inventors (female and male). Compared to the previous year, the number of female inventors went up by 27% whereas he number of male inventors increased by only 3%.

Overall, the percentage of women inventors in patent applications has reached 23% while the share of men inventors is 77%. Despite the appearance of a large discrepancy, this is the highest proportion of female innovators recorded in the last five years and without a doubt it is expected to inspire more female researchers, inventors and technology developers to be part of this transformation.
