New Study by EUIPO: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Infringement and Enforcement of Copyright and Designs

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Observatory published a new study on  “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Infringement and Enforcement of Copyright and Designs” analysing how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies might affect both the infringement and enforcement of copyright and designs.

The study highlights different applications of AI such as cloud services, robotics, 3D printing, blockchain and addresses 20 fictional copyright and design infringement and enforcement scenarios.

One of the main findings of the study is that there are multiple opportunities, drivers, limitations and concerns regarding the use of AI in infringement and enforcement of copyright and designs. The study therefore focuses on some of the best use cases for AI, by law enforcement, and for the enforcement of IP rights since AI technology is constantly developing and growing in our evolving digital world.
