New Report from WIPO: Global IP Filings Reached New All-Time Highs in 2021

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) just released 2022 edition of World Intellectual Property Indicators (WIPI) that analyses the IP activities around the world. The report presents strong growth in intellectual property (IP) filings in 2021, as entrepreneurship, technology, innovation and digitalization continue to drive forward national and global growth.

In 2021, the innovators globally filed 3.4 million patent applications that means 3.6% more than the previous year with offices in Asia receiving 67.6% of all applications worldwide. Trademark and industrial design filing activity grew by even more – 5.5% and 9.2%, respectively. Asian countries were a driving force for global innovation in 2021 with strong growth in local patent filings in China (+5.5%), the Republic of Korea (+2.5%) and India (+5.5%). The largest growth in trademark filing and industrial design filing also came from Asia.
