IP5 Discussion: Role of IP in Building a Sustainable Future

IP5 consists of the world's five largest intellectual property offices: The Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the European Patent Office (EPO).

This year the main topics discussed in the annual meeting were sustainability and how to enhance the global patent system to better support the innovators. The heads of office also reviewed the preparations for IP5 NET/AI Roadmap that aims to optimise internal processes at the IP5 through the use of new emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as enhance legal certainty and transparency in applicable patent practices.

IP5 heads of office agreed to increase their outreach activities to promote the benefits of IP to a broader audience and illustrate the role of innovation in forging a sustainable future.
