INPI Brazil shares its trade mark data with WIPO's Global Trademark Database

Brazil's National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) has announced its accession to the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) Global Trademark Database. This decision, which is in line with the INPI's Strategic Plan 2023-2026, involves the exchange of Brazilian trade mark data and represents an important step towards its consolidation at the global level.

The Global Trademark Database is an essential platform for trade mark research and analysis. It provides access to a wide range of trade mark collections from several national and regional offices, as well as international trade marks registered under the Madrid System, appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications under the Lisbon System, and the international non-proprietary names of the World Health Organisation.

With the inclusion of more than 5 million INPI trade mark procedures, both ongoing and already processed, the scope of this database totals an impressive 63 million records from 76 different data sources.

The platform offers advanced search functionality, allowing users to search for trademarks by key elements such as owner name or case number. Notably, the image search enables accurate identification based on shape or colour similarity to the reference image, improving the efficiency of trade mark searches.
