In 2021, the Government of India published the Copyright (Amendment) Rules, 2021, building on the last version of 2016.
A set of the changes focused on the digitalisation and optimisation of existing procedures, for example, having now electronic means as one the primary modes of comunication by the Copyringht office and shortened registration requirements to software related copyright, among others.
In addition, further amendments aimed to increase the acountability and transparency of copyright societies with a clear reporting process, including a "Annual Transparency report".
