Horizon IP Scan Round Table: Team Shared Experiences and Insights Into the Service Provision

Towards the conclusion of the service at the end of November, the Horizon IP Scan team organised a round table session in Brussels on 10 November 2023 to share lessons learnt from this pilot action focusing on the provision of intellectual property (IP) pre-diagnostic services for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) involved in collaborative research and innovation (R&I) projects.

The meeting started with the overall presentation of the service, covering its rationale, objectives, and policy context. It then proceeded with a general overview of the service delivery. The team presented key figures and statistics related to the service provision and the main IP challenges SMEs face in collaborative projects. In addition, local IP experts involved in the service provision gave some practical examples and shared insights from an expert perspective.

The session concluded with an open discussion involving all attendees, including representatives from different units of DG GROW and DG RTD of the European Commission and EISMEA, as well as the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), European Patent Office (EPO) and the European IP Helpdesk. Sharing experiences and views on previous IP pre-diagnostic services, the vivid exchange proved valuable for assessing and putting the service’s achievements into a larger context.

Key outcomes of the service provision will be published in a Horizon IP Scan Study Report shortly.
