The Global Innovation Index (GII) is an annual assessment that evaluates and ranks the innovation capacities of countries and economies across the globe. Its primary goal is to pinpoint specific regions characterized by a significant concentration of top-tier scientific and technological advancements. This ranking sheds light on the geographical dispersion of innovation excellence, offering valuable insights into innovation hubs worldwide.
According to the Index, science and technology (S&T) clusters in certain emerging economies grew at a particularly fast pace. With the exception of China, only five middle-income economies have clusters among the top 100. Alongside with India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Russian Federation and Türkiye, Brazil with São Paulo, is the sole top 100 S&T cluster in Latin America.
