The Global Innovation Index 2021 is out again (for another year), with the motto "Tracking Innovation through the COVID-19 Crisis". In accordance with the mentioned document, Chile is the most innovative economy in the region.
The 2021 edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) presents the latest global innovation ranking of 132 economies, relying on 81 different indicators.
Per the document:
- the investment in innovation has shown great resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, often reaching new peaks, but that it varies across sectors and regions. The rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines powerfully fulfills the promise of technological progress
- Brazil and Peru overperformed in 2021, for the first time ever
- In Latin America and the Caribbean, only Chile (53rd), Mexico (55th), Costa Rica (56th), and Brazil (57th) rank among the top 60. Except for Mexico, few economies in this region have managed consistently to up their ranking over the past 10 years.
- Brazil is among other countries which is a middle-income economy hosting top S&T clusters
