The DesignEuropa Awards recognize outstanding design achievements within the community of Registered Community Design holders.

European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has just announced the winners of the 2023 edition during a ceremony held in Berlin. These winners have been honoured in three distinct categories:

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs): RemigoOne, an electric outboard motor for boats, represents a pinnacle of design excellence. Designed by Ajda Bertok for the Slovenian enterprise Remigo, this motor combines lightweight construction with user-friendly features, making it accessible even to individuals without prior nautical expertise. Produced in Slovenia, it is versatile and suitable for all boat types weighing up to 1,500 kg.

Industry: The well-known Italian brand Smeg stood out as the winner, thanks to their Full Automatic Espresso Coffee Machine. Designed by Vittorio Bertazzoni, Matteo Bazzicalupo, and Raffaella Mangiarotti, this bean-to-cup coffee machine enables the professional preparation of various coffee beverages in a straightforward and intuitive manner. Moreover, it seamlessly integrates long-lasting technology with Smeg's signature aesthetic. Notably, the machine's direct grinding of coffee beans eliminates the need for capsules, thereby minimizing waste.

The Lifetime Achivement Award: Maria Benktzon of Sweden was honoured with this year's Lifetime Achievement award. Her remarkable body of work has consistently aimed to infuse a sense of fine art into everyday objects, ultimately fostering improved environments for all individuals. From a young age, Maria dedicated herself to understanding the challenges faced by people with disabilities, leading the way in pioneering inclusive design. Her creations, spanning from kitchenware to personal hygiene tools, not only set higher standards for accessibility and functionality but have also contributed to making the world a more inclusive place. Maria is a true visionary of our time, and the first woman to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
