The European Patent Office (EPO) is promoting the patent validation system in Central America and the Caribbean. This system allows applicants to extend protection for their inventions to countries in these regions through a single European patent application, without having to file separate national applications, thus simplifying the process and reducing costs for innovators.
The EPO has been working with the IP offices of the Central American and Caribbean countries to promote the validation system and facilitate its adoption. So far, Costa Rica and Panama have shown great interest in this initiative, which would free up national resources to address other needs, such as delays in the national patent system.
