EC Publishes the Final Report of the Mutual Learning Exercise on Knowledge Valorisation

Toolbox

Enhancing the valorisation of research results is essential for unlocking the full potential of Europe's exceptional science. It addresses society's real needs and facilitates access to talent and knowledge for our industry, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups. The Mutual Learning Exercise (MLE) on Knowledge Valorisation, which engaged 18 countries, aimed to enhance policies and public support for knowledge uptake and deployment. The European Commission has just published the final report, providing a set of recommendations and a policy toolbox of programmes, measures, and good practices to strengthen knowledge valorisation in practice across Europe.

The primary aim of the MLE has been to support policymakers and key research and innovation (R&I) stakeholders and to identify actionable best practices and instruments that aid in implementing the Council Recommendation on Guiding Principles for Knowledge Valorisation, adopted in December 2022.

The MLE focused on five topics:

  1. The policy and legal context as well as governance and funding
  2. Research talents and skills for knowledge valorisation
  3. The role of intermediaries,
  4. The importance of networks and processes
  5. The concept of intellectual assets management
