According to an estimate of the World Health organisation, around 35% of the fake drugs sold globally come from India. Reacting before this fact, the Indian Government has introduced the possibility to include quick response (QR) codes on the product's labels to ensure the authenticity and facilitate the traceability of over 300 drug brands.
The data priveded by such codes will include a unique product identification code, the name of the drug, name and address of the manufacturer, expiry date and other useful information for the safe consumtion of the drug.
This measure hopes to reduce the chances of selling a fake drug and provide the necessary tools for consumers to make an informed purchase.
