Venezuela has made new developments in the establishment of the Geographical Indications procedure, based on the WTO regulations. SAPI has also created a new specialised Geographical Indications department.
New decisions at SAPI suggest that they will further define the criteria that apply to the exclusion from registration of GIs, by limiting it only to cases of deceit, misleading or likelihood of confusion.
