Standards and standardisation play an essential role in the successful transfer, commercialisation and valorisation of research results. They, therefore, become a crucial factor contributing to innovation. The European Commission (EC) has just published a new scoping study that aims to identify elements of good practice for researchers dealing with standards and standardisation in Horizon 2020 research projects. The findings and recommendations will contribute to the development of a code of practice.
The study aims to guide beneficiaries of public research and innovation (R&I) programmes to best identify opportunities and techniques to valorise their project results through standardisation. With the new study and the upcoming code of practice, the EC hopes to increase researchers' awareness of and know-how about essential standardisation processes.
