Brand-new European IP Helpdesk Bulletin Edition: Societal Value Creation

The current global landscape is marked by crises and conflicts, with a growing wealth disparity between high- and low-income countries, diminishing resources, and unequal access to medicines. Addressing these challenges requires innovative approaches to ensure that intellectual assets and technologies are effectively leveraged to tackle present and future issues. However, the contrary is often the case, and existing assets remain underused.

Joining forces with the Impact Licensing Initiative, the European IP Helpdesk team has published a brand-new Bulletin edition exploring innovative concepts, models, and practices that reconsider the utilization of intellectual property, technology, and data to address significant societal challenges and enhance the creation of social value. Impact licensing is recognized as a valuable strategic tool for introducing technologies into societal markets in a scalable and economically sustainable manner. It suggests a collaborative and voluntary platform for interaction among technology owners, manufacturers, and user organizations, ensuring access to essential technologies where the interests of every participant are taken into account.

With the support of the voices and examples included in this Bulletin, we seek to increase awareness of creative IP usage strategies and unlock the potential of our innovation ecosystems for better social value generation.
