The Cluster Ecodomus for sustainable construction, energy saving and technologies powered by renewable sources is a network made of actors from institutions, industry, academy and research operating in Sicily, covering the entire sustainable construction value chain from design to waste disposal, which are supported with training, research, and business networking activities.

The Cluster Ecodomus for sustainable construction, energy saving and technologies powered by renewable sources is a network made of actors from institutions, industry, academy and research operating in Sicily.

It was registered at the European Cluster Collaboration Platform in 2021 and was constituted from the existing Regional District Ecodomus, officially recognized by the Sicilian Region with the Regional Productive Activities Department Decree n. 745 on 22/03/2012 and renewed with Decree n. 2498/11 on 15/11/2021, and the Consortium Ecodomus.

The Cluster Ecodomus covers the entire sustainable construction value chain, as it includes design studios, consulting and monitoring companies, construction companies, raw materials and building components manufacturers, suppliers, etc.

The mission of the Cluster is to support the companies in the joint planning and implementation of environmental sustainability strategies in the building sector, through applied research and technological innovation of processes, and in boosting collaborations with other enterprises, research centres and local institutions. 

Currently, the Cluster Ecodomus is partner of 2 international projects: 

  • ICBUILD (BOOSTING THE INTERNATIONALIZATION FOR CIRCULARITY IN THE BUILDING ENVIRONMENT), funded under the COSME –Clusters Go International program with the goal to underline the importance of the role of clusters in supporting SMEs in international trade activities and global markets, as creators of partnership and facilitators of international networking;
  • CUBÂTI (CULTURE DU BÂTI DE QUALITÉ), funded under the ENI Interreg Italy-Tunisia 2014-2020 cross-border cooperation program, with the goal to support research and innovation, strengthening the links between companies, professionals and researchers, with a view to a global and strategic vision of the culture of quality buildings.

During last year, the Cluster Ecodomus has provided its companies with vouchers for business travels, market analysis on third countries sustainable building sector, with training workshops and business meetings at the MediEdil Fair in Palermo and The Big 5 in Dubai. The Cluster team has also attended events for self-training and networking as the European Cluster Conference 2022 in Prague, the Cluster Booster Academy in Strasbourg, the Mission Incoming Estonia-Latvia-Sicily in Palermo, several meetings from the Regional Government for Productive Districts, and visits at building construction fairs (MediEdil Fair in Palermo, The Big 5 in Dubai, Futurebuild in London, European Coatings Show and Conference in Norimberga, Eco-Med in Catania, Salon de l'écoconstruction & l'innovation in Tunisi).

Next, the Cluster has the willingness to enlarge its SMEs network, empower its training and business matching activities, and its intermediary role among different actors through the creation of a networking web-platform and the organization of a sustainable building sector fair.
