Name: Furneaux, Robert

Firm: Sipara

Location: Oxford, UK

Robert is a dual-qualified intellectual property solicitor and registered trade mark attorney. He covers all aspects of intellectual property specialising in portfolio management and has experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters. His particular specialisation within IP is managing trade mark and design portfolios.

Before founding Sipara, Robert headed the trade mark group at a large UK-based IP firm where he was responsible for much of the firm’s work in this field throughout Asia. Robert has established an excellent reputation acting for IP holders before the UK IP Office and the EU trade marks Office (OHIM) and has appeared before the Appointed Person and appealed cases from OHIM’s Board of Appeal to the European General Court. He previously worked in the Middle East acting for international brand owners in anti-counterfeiting actions and advised Middle East-based companies on IP protection outside of the region. Robert also has a wealth of experience in Southeast Asia and has been involved in a wide variety of IP issues in the region. Robert has particular expertise in the retail, FMCG, entertainment, publishing and pharmaceutical industries along with an in-depth experience of IP registration and enforcement in Asia and the Middle East. He particularly relishes the challenge of rationalising IP portfolios to cut waste and deliver more value. Robert is listed as a Notable practitioner by Chambers & Partners and is a Recommend Lawyer in Legal 500. Robert joined the Helpdesk network in January 2014.
