European Patent Protection in Cambodia & Laos: Opportunities for European SMEs (EuroCham Cambodia x ECCIL)

1. Background

At the beginning of 2025, the Laos Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) signed an agreement to extend European patent rights to Laos, eliminating the need for a separate national application. This partnership makes Laos the second Southeast Asian country to join the European patent validation system, following Cambodia, which implemented it in 2018. By simplifying the process of securing patent protection in these two countries, the agreement is expected to attract more companies to develop and expand their businesses in the region.

In this context, EuroCham Cambodia, in association with EuroCham Laos (ECCIL) and the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, is organising a webinar on “European Patent Protection in Cambodia & Laos: Opportunities for European SMEs” on November 27, 2025, 3:00 PM (GMT+7).  

This free webinar is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the evolving patent landscape in Southeast Asia, with a focus on how the European patent validation system in Laos and Cambodia strengthens IP protection, simplifies patent enforcement, and promotes fair trade practices.

The event will be particularly valuable for European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in or engaging with the Southeast Asian market. It aligns with EuroCham’s commitment to supporting businesses with essential knowledge for protecting their assets.
