This year, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Awards attracted more than 780 applications from 95 countries, highlighting the diverse ways in which small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups leverage intellectual property (IP) to create meaningful impact across various sectors.
30 finalists of the 2025 edition, stand out for their innovative approaches, robust IP strategies, and significant contributions to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The 2025 finalists are divided into five thematic categories: Health, Environment, ICT, Creative Industries, and Agrifood.
Indian small and medium enterprise (SME) Glovatrix has developed "Fifth Sense," an AI-powered wearable device that translates sign language into speech and vice versa, facilitating real-time communication for the deaf and speech-impaired. The glove captures hand and finger movements, converting them into audible speech, while also transcribing spoken words into text for the user. This innovation is protected by a suite of patents covering sensor technology, machine learning algorithms, and user interface design, aiming to bridge communication gaps and promote inclusivity.
The winners will be revealed on 11 July 2025 during the WIPO General Assemblies at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva.
