This year, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Awards attracted more than 780 applications from 95 countries, highlighting the diverse ways in which small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups leverage intellectual property (IP) to create meaningful impact across various sectors.
30 finalists of the 2025 edition, stand out for their innovative approaches, robust IP strategies, and significant contributions to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The 2025 finalists are divided into five thematic categories: Health, Environment, ICT, Creative Industries, and Agrifood. They were chosen based on four core criteria: the strength of their business model and existing IP portfolio, their growth potential and international IP strategy, the integration of IP into their company culture, and their broader impact on building a better society.
A new feature of this year’s edition is the introduction of a dual-category structure, distinguishing between start-ups and SMEs. This change aims to spotlight innovation and excellence in IP management across different stages of business maturity.
The winners will be revealed on 11 July 2025 during the WIPO General Assemblies at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva.
