Singapore: Successful opposition to a request for a qualification to geographical indication application by Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano

Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited ("Requester") filed a request for qualification in respect of the registered Geographical Indication No. 50201900057U for "Parmigiano Reggiano" for "cheese" ("Registered GI"), which was filed in the name of Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano ("Opponent"). The request was filed on the sole basis that the term "Parmesan" is not a translation of the Registered GI. 

The registrar allowed the opposition.
