RF trademark

News

Good morning everyone. It seems that as holiday times gets near, IP news in Europe tend to get scarce. So, for this week's news:

Roger Federer and the RF logo

Back in 2008 Nike, to which Federer had been linked by a sponsorship contract since 94, created and registered the RF trademark. The "RF" brand became, in a very short timeframe, renowned worldwide, becoming one of the most recognisable and distinctive signs in the world of tennis and sports in general.

However, in 2018 the Federer-Nike-RF triangulation came to an end. Federer was, and still is, sponsored by the Japanese company Uniqlo. However, up until March of this year Nike was still the owner of the brand, therefore barring Federer and Uniqlo from using the logo on any type of merchandising.

Now that Federer gained control over the RF brand, he has announced that merch bearing the RF trademark is about to be launched. We wish him all the best with this new sponsor and collaboration.

And this is all for this week! Let’s hope next week’s news are a bit more abundant and you will also have a monthly blog post.
