The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) has commissioned a new study “Patent Landscape Analysis in the Field of Advanced Materials.” The study has been awarded to a consortium led by PPMI (part of the Verian Group), working in partnership with IDEA Consult and INCENTIM (KU Leuven). As part of this study, a new survey has been launcehd to gather insights from stakeholders active in the advanced materials ecosystem.
This initiative will feed directly into EU policy development aimed at strengthening the Union’s technological competitiveness, improving the valorisation of research and innovation (R&I) results, and enhancing Europe’s overall capacity for advanced materials technologies. The findings will also help inform the forthcoming EU Advanced Materials Act, a strategic initiative expected to shape future investment priorities and innovation pathways across Europe.
Through the survey, companies have the opportunity to share firsthand experiences on patenting, technology transfer, licensing, and commercialisation. Their insights will play a crucial role in shaping evidence-based policies that better support the development, protection, and deployment of advanced materials technologies in Europe.
Advanced materials underpin many of Europe’s strategic value chains—from clean energy and electronics to healthcare, mobility, and manufacturing. Understanding how companies navigate IP challenges in this rapidly evolving field will be essential for strengthening Europe’s innovation ecosystem and accelerating the adoption of breakthrough technologies.
