The European Commission has released a new report showcasing 55 EU-funded research projects that examine key dimensions of a just green transition. The report offers valuable perspectives on how this transition can be shaped in a socially fair and globally inclusive manner.
The selected projects explore how principles of fairness, equity, and inclusion can be embedded across diverse areas such as climate action, sustainable urban development, circular and bio-based economies, energy systems, and environmental governance. They highlight innovative approaches to engaging marginalised communities, fostering participatory decision-making, and strengthening social resilience, while also drawing attention to persistent barriers, including structural inequalities, regulatory fragmentation, and limited access to decision-making for vulnerable groups.
Key insights stress the importance of integrated governance, inclusive financing models, and citizen-led initiatives in building long-term sustainability. The report underlines that a just green transition requires more than technological advances: it calls for social innovation, policy coherence, and global cooperation. By analysing these projects, the report contributes to a deeper understanding of how climate and sustainability policies can be made more inclusive, equitable, and effective.
