Quantum technologies are rapidly transitioning from theory to real-world application, reshaping industries, economies, and global competition. The European IP Helpdesk has released a new IP Special on Intellectual Property & Quantum, offering a curated collection of resources that explore the evolving relationship between IP and quantum innovation.
The Special features a training recording, “Protect your IP in quantum technologies,” organised in collaboration with the European Patent Office (EPO). It covers key trends in quantum computing, patentability challenges, and includes a case study from the Horizon Europe-funded project FoQaCiA.
The package also includes the EPO–OECD joint study mapping the global quantum ecosystem, providing valuable insights into the current landscape through diverse data sources.
In addition, the Special presents an exclusive interview series with expert Robert Harrison, exploring how IP frameworks are adapting to the quantum era and addressing key questions around patents, policy, and the protection of innovation in this rapidly evolving field.
