The European IP Helpdesk has released a new IP Special on Intellectual Property and Standardisation, bringing together a set of resources that explore how these two areas interact to support innovation and its broader dissemination.
The package includes a factsheet providing a comprehensive overview of the relationship between intellectual property (IP) and standardisation, highlighting key principles, mechanisms, and practical considerations. It explains how IP rights and standards, while sometimes appearing to have competing objectives, can work together to foster innovation, interoperability, and market uptake.
The IP Special also features a dedicated infographic outlining the main aspects of the interplay between IP and standardisation in a clear and accessible format.
In addition, the package includes a core training module developed within the EU-funded IAM4RE project. The session presents standardisation as a strategic instrument for knowledge valorisation alongside licensing, collaboration, and policy uptake.
