New Infographic: Design Protection in the European Union

Design Regulation in the European Union

The European Union adopted a Design Reform Package in 2024, which entered into force on 1 May 2025, introducing significant updates to the EU design protection framework. The reform modernises design law across the EU, making it more accessible, efficient, and better suited to the needs of today’s fast-evolving markets and digital economy.

Following the release of a detailed fact sheet, the European IP Helpdesk team has now published a new infographic offering a clear and concise overview of design protection in the European Union. This summary highlights the key changes introduced by the reform, helping designers, businesses, and innovators understand how the updated framework strengthens protection and simplifies registration procedures.

The infographic serves as a practical tool for small and medium enterprises and creators seeking to better understand how design rights can safeguard their innovation and enhance competitiveness within the EU.
