New EIC Report: Unlocking Innovation through Corporate-Startup Collaboration

The European Innovation Council (EIC) has published a new report, "Unlocking Innovation through Corporate-Startup Collaboration – The EIC Corporate Partnership Programme", showcasing how strategic partnerships between cutting-edge startups and established corporations are accelerating the scale-up of deep tech and driving industrial transformation across Europe.

The report aligns with the ambitions of the EU Startup and Scale-up Initiative and echoes the priorities outlined in Mario Draghi’s 2024 report “The Future of European Competitiveness”, which stresses the importance of bridging research and innovation with real-world application. It also supports the European Commission’s broader goal of enhancing Europe’s technological leadership and strategic independence.

The report illustrates how partnerships between corporates and startups play a crucial role in addressing the key challenges deep tech companies face such as significant capital needs, extended time-to-market, and limited access to industrial infrastructure, while simultaneously providing large companies with early exposure to disruptive innovations.

Additionally, the report underscores that selecting a suitable intellectual property (IP) strategy is essential for success, as outlined within the four key pillars of effective corporate-startup collaboration.
