Myanmar: Patent Law takes effect | June 2024

The Patent Law 2019 came into effect on 31 May 2024. All four IP laws enacted in 2019 are now in force, namely the Trademark Law, Industrial Design Law, Copyright Law and the Patent Law. Like other IP right registration systems, we anticipate that the Myanmar Intellectual Property Department (MIPD) will launch an electronic patent registration system in the following months. To implement the Patent Law, The Ministry of Commerce has also issued the Patent Rules to regulate the patent registration process. We will provide you with an update once the patent registration system is in operation.
