
INDECOPI Peru publishes the Influencer Advertising Guide: INDECOPI has published the "Advertising Guide for Influencers", an advisory document designed to promote responsible advertising on digital platforms, while emphasising the importance of respecting copyright. The guide stresses that content creators should avoid the unauthorised use of third party brands, songs, images or videos to avoid infringing intellectual property rights. It also offers recommendations on transparently sharing information about products or services to avoid potential legal infringements.
Peru enforces strict penalties for scientific authorship fraud: In June, the Peruvian government published a new regulation that sets severe penalties for those who buy or sell authorship of scientific publications. According to Supreme Decree No. 062-2024-PCM, the penalties include fines of up to 1,648,000 soles (320 UIT), approximately 445,000 euros, and permanent exclusion from the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (SINACTI). In addition to this infringement, other serious infractions, such as misuse of research funds, providing false information and plagiarism, will also be punished with fines and expulsion from SINACTI. Peru strengthens sanctions against audiovisual piracy: On 13 September, the Executive Branch issued Legislative Decree No. 1649, which amends Article 217 of the Penal Code to increase penalties for unauthorised film recording in cinemas, known as camcording. This measure, promoted by Indecopi, simplifies enforcement by penalising camcording without requiring proof of commercial intent, with prison sentences ranging from 4 to 8 years.

Copyright is the main tool for protecting video games, as it guarantees economic rights and allows creators to benefit financially from the licensing and exploitation of their works. INDECOPI offers an interactive guide to the video game industry to help creators understand their rights and how to monetise their creations. It is also recommended, although not mandatory, to register video games with the Copyright Office to protect the author's interests.
