The EU Industrial Research and Development (R&D) Investment Scoreboard serves as a vital tool for tracking and comparing the performance of the EU's top industrial R&D investors with their global counterparts. Established in 2004, it has become a trusted resource for companies, researchers, and policymakers, offering valuable insights and data.
In addition to its monitoring function, this year’s EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard includes an in-depth analysis of R&D investment productivity and merger and acquisition (M&A) activity over the last two decades. The findings reveal that while R&D investments by Scoreboard firms have continued to positively impact labor productivity and patenting, there is a global trend of diminishing returns on these investments. This indicates that top R&D investors now require significantly greater investments to produce marketable products or generate new ideas compared to the past.
