Joint Webinar with EPO and EIC: Licensing-Based Business Models

In collaboration with the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), the European IP Helpdesk hosted a webinar exploring the practical applications of licensing early-stage technologies. 

The session kicked off with an introductory presentation on licensing by Christian Soltmann, EPO’s Product Manager for Patent Data Services, who outlined foundational concepts and practical insights into licensing agreements. Following this, Bowman Heiden, the Director of the Center for Intellectual Property at the University of Gothenburg shared insights into various licensing-based business models, discussing approaches to brand and trademark, software and copyright, as well as technology and patent licensing. To complement the session, Adéla Dvořáková, Project Adviser at the European Innovation Council, presented a case study on OncoQR, an Austria-based biotech company focused on cancer treatment, showcasing a real-life licensing experience. 

Following the Q&A session, Karin Hofmann, President of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) Austria, shared insights on the practical aspects of licence agreements, specifically focusing on negotiating term sheets. The session wrapped up with two case study presentations from Infinite Roots and Linari Engineering, moderated by Sonja, London the current President of Licensing Executives Society International (LESI).
