Intellectual Property (IP) rights are territorial, which means they are confined to the jurisdiction in which they are granted. Therefore, a registered IP in one country only protects the invention within that specific country. To achieve international coverage, similar protection must be obtained in other countries.
In collaboration with the Latin America IP SME Helpdesk, the European IP Helpdesk team published three new fact sheets providing in-depth comparison of various aspects of intellectual property rights between European Union and Latin American countries. Those fact sheets aim to help the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by outlining the main differences between the EU’s IP legal environment, which SMEs are familiar with, and legal framework in the Latin American countries. The comparative fact sheets are available:
- IP Systems Comparative: Colombia vs Europe
- IP Systems Comparative: Mexico vs Europe
- IP Systems Comparative: Brazil vs Europe
