India's news website ANI sues OpenAI alleging copyright infringement

Asian News International (ANI) has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in the Delhi High Court, alleging that the AI company used its content to train its AI models and generated false information attributed to the news agency.

The case, the first of its kind in India, revolves around the issue of copyright infringement. OpenAI has denied the allegations and stated that it takes great care to support news organizations. The court has issued a summons to OpenAI and the next hearing is scheduled for January.

The case raises concerns about AI companies' use of copyrighted material and the spread of fake news. ANI argues that such "hallucinations" can damage its reputation and lead to public disorder. The court plans to appoint an independent expert to advise on the copyright implications of AI models using publicly available content.
