Counterfeit goods and related malpractices, including the manipulation of manufacturing and expiry dates, continue to pose a serious challenge, according to India’s Consumer Affairs Secretary, Nidhi Khare. Speaking at the FICCI CASCADE Seminar in New Delhi, she warned that such practices are widespread, with expired products being relabelled and reintroduced into the market.
Despite ongoing enforcement efforts, counterfeit products remain prevalent. Khare described the situation as a “cat-and-mouse game,” with offenders constantly shifting operations to evade detection.
The remarks underline the need for continuous monitoring, stronger enforcement measures, and increased awareness to protect consumers and address the evolving risks associated with counterfeit and unsafe products.
