The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) achieved a record-breaking 152 intellectual property rights (IPRs) filings in 2024, marking its highest annual total to date. This milestone brings the institute’s cumulative filings to 1,200, with a 12.91% licensing rate through industry partnerships during the year. The filings comprised 124 patents, ten design registrations, two copyrights, and six trademark applications.
Expanding its global footprint, IIT Kanpur also filed seven US patents, two Chinese patents, and one European patent.
“Achieving 152 IPR filings in 2024 and seeing a significant increase in granted patents affirms IIT Kanpur's commitment to pioneering translational research to bridge the gap between research and real-world application.” the institute stated.
